Why Morocco?

  • Key Industry in Morocco: Agriculture is a cornerstone of the Moroccan economy. The country has a diverse agricultural base, producing grains, fruits (especially citrus), vegetables, and olives, making it an ideal agribusiness partner. With advanced irrigation techniques and a focus on agricultural sustainability, Morocco is positioned as a key player in agriculture.
  • Investments in Modern Agricultural Industry: Morocco is actively pursuing the modernization of agriculture through its “Génération Green 2020-2030” plan, which aims to increase agricultural productivity, improve water use efficiency, and enhance the sustainability of agricultural practices. This includes promoting organic farming, high-quality crops, and the introduction of new digital technologies. For German agribusinesses focused on innovation and sustainable agriculture, Morocco offers significant cooperation and innovation potential in areas such as precision farming, water management, and agri-tech.
  • Sustainable Energy Supply: Morocco is a leading location for sustainable energy and innovative agriculture, with a strong focus on renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and green hydrogen. As of 2020, 37% of the country’s energy came from renewable sources. This sustainable energy policy supports agriculture, making Morocco an ideal location for sustainable energy applications in agriculture and beyond.
  • Access to European and African Markets: Morocco’s proximity to Europe makes it an ideal hub for access to European and African markets, with possible delivery times of just one to two days. With a well-developed port infrastructure, Morocco serves as a gateway for the export of agricultural products to both the EU and Sub-Saharan Africa, offering significant logistical advantages to German agribusinesses looking to expand their market reach.
  • Trade Agreements with Europe: Morocco benefits from several free trade agreements, including the Association Agreement between the EU and Morocco, which provides preferential access to European markets and reduces tariffs and trade barriers for agricultural exports. Access to free trade agreements enhances Morocco’s attractiveness as a partner for collaboration in the agricultural industry.
  • Government Incentives & Skilled Workforce: The Moroccan government offers various incentives for foreign investors, particularly in sectors such as agriculture. These include tax breaks, subsidies for modern agricultural equipment, and support for agribusinesses investing in value-added agricultural processing. Additionally, the country has a growing pool of skilled workers in the fields of agronomy, engineering, and food technology, supported by various academic institutions and vocational training programs focused on agriculture.
