Networking Reception, Celebrating Cross-Cultural Connections

Located in Berlin Street in the heart of Cairo’s historical diplomatic district Zamalek on an island in the Nile river, the German Embassy in Egypt was the most suitable location for the reception that kicked off the New Year 2024. Upon invitation by the chargé d’affaires a.i. and deputy ambassador Tobias Krause, the event was a networking opportunity for dozens of German and Egyptian female entrepreneurs in addition to selected diplomats and guests from all walks of the private and public sectors.

Mr. Krause welcomed the guests at the ambassador’s residence and highlighted the long history of Egyptian-German cooperation in various fields up to this day. While he pointed at the high-ranking political exchange between Germany and Egypt, one of these very tangible cooperation projects on the ground is the award-winning German-Arab mentoring program Ouissal. EMA President Heike Fölster seized the opportunity to share her very personal attachment to Ouissal emphasizing that “bringing together women entrepreneurs and start-up founders for the advancement of their businesses, but also for making women in society more visible: This has been one of the many groundbreaking activities of the EMA.”

In the shade of the palm trees in the embassy garden, a Mediterranean atmosphere in the spirit of partnership prevailed. The German delegation and the many guests from the EMA partner network in Egypt engaged in fruitful conversations about project ideas for further cooperation between the private sector, government, diplomacy, youth organizations, and research institutions. The EMA continues to be active in the region with purpose-driven pursuits that leave a positive mark on the collaboration between Germany and Egypt.
