Saudi Arabia is truly a land of opportunity. Day 1 of our delegation wrapped up with a most welcoming exchange at the Saudi Council of Engineers and a tour of KAFD as well as a networking reception at the beautiful German embassy in Riyadh.
Key takeaways – New companies entering KSA are increasingly requesting LEED-certified office spaces, and energy efficiency is a hot topic – with 70% of electricity consumed by AC in buildings. German technology could provide more sustainable solutions.
On Day 2, our delegation of German architects and engineers had the unique opportunity to present themselves to several developers in Saudi Arabia, including the Diriyah Company (شركة الدرعية). Diriyah is located in the historical heart of Saudi Arabia, around the UNESCO World Heritage site AlTuraif, and offers a range of opportunities, such as:
- Over 18,000 residential units
- More than 1.6 million m² of office space
- Over 566,000 m² of retail space
The two project phases, DG1 and DG2, cover a total development area of 14 square kilometers. The opportunities for German companies are already plentiful and will continue for many years – from facades to utility services, from building technology to neighborhood design.
