Dr. Abdelmajid Layadi, a visionary economist and dedicated academic, is the driving force behind the founding of the EMA country association. Born in Morocco in 1975, he pursued his passion for economics at the University of Hamburg, where he graduated in 2007. He then deepened his academic expertise with a post-doctoral appointment at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, playing a pivotal role in the establishment of the Center for Iraq Studies.
Dr. Layadi’s commitment to education and intercultural understanding is evident through his teaching tenure at the University of Bremen, where he specializes in the economies and societies of the Middle East. His unique ability to bridge the worlds of economics and academia has made him a key advocate for international understanding, peace, and prosperity in the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab region.
In 2008, Dr. Layadi’s vision to establish the EMA received widespread support. Through his leadership and collaboration with dedicated colleagues and distinguished personalities, the EMA has become a cornerstone of German-Arab relations, fostering partnerships and dialogue across regions.
Having served as the EMA’s full-time Secretary General and later as Vice President for many years, Dr. Layadi was re-elected Secretary General on December 10, 2024. His tireless efforts and unwavering dedication continue to shape the EMA’s mission, reinforcing its role as a vital platform for cooperation and mutual understanding in the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab world.
