23 – 26 March 2014 in Casablanca, Rabat and Kénitra

Under the leadership of Mrs. Adelheid Sailer-Schuster, President of the EMA and Mr. Jürgen Klimke, MdB and member of the German-Maghrebian Parliamentary Group of the Bundestag

From 23 to 26 March 2014, EMA organized a delegation trip with about 20 participants to the Kingdom of Morocco for its members and interested entrepreneurs. During the event there was the opportunity to learn about the current economic and political developments in the Kingdom and to meet high-ranking representatives from the private sector. Various company visits were to provide practical insights.

Casablanca

At the beginning of the two-day program, the delegation was received at the Association Marocaine des Exportateurs (ASMEX, Association of Moroccan Exporters). A conference was held there, where ASMEX and EMA presented their fields of work and the participants of the delegation and present Moroccan entrepreneurs exchanged valuable information. The conference also allowed the participants to learn about the Global Business Exchange Program of the German Association for International Cooperation (GIZ). This is a program to promote dialogue between SMEs in Morocco and German SMEs. After the conference, a cooperation agreement was signed between ASMEX and EMA to promote future cooperation between the two institutions.

In the afternoon the delegation could convince itself of the high economic potential of Morocco during the visits of the pharmaceutical company “Sothema”, the industrial platform for aerospace technology “Midparc” and the textile company “Charaftex”.

At the end of the day, the participants visited the mosque “Hassan 2”. At a B2B dinner in the famous Rick’s Café, an active exchange with members of the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place.

Rabat / Kénitra

The following day the program took the delegation to the royal city of Rabat. First the Office National l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable (National Agency for Water and Electricity) was visited. During a detailed guided tour, the delegation got an insight into the drinking water supply of Morocco. Afterwards the delegation was received at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Rabat, where a cooperation agreement with the EMA sealed the future close cooperation of both institutions.

After the B2B Lunch the delegation was welcomed in the newly created “Atlantic Freezone” in Kénitra. The management there provided the participants with important information about Morocco as a business location and the Freezone. The representative of the regional investment center Kénitra gave the participants a comprehensive insight into the investment potential of the region.

Afterwards, the delegation visited the Freezone site, where Fujikura Automotive, an automotive supplier, opened its doors for the participants. This gave everyone the opportunity to form their own impression of the local conditions and to exchange practical experience reports directly with the companies already located there.

The delegation trip was concluded with an evening reception at the residence of the German ambassador to Morocco, Dr. Michael Witter, which brought the otherwise quite intensive economic forum to a contemplative conclusion.

The delegation trip was completed by the successful project initiation of a member company of EMA. The project in the water sector benefits on the one hand from the contacts of EMA and on the other hand from the possibilities of financial support by the German development cooperation.
