Morocco is undergoing rapid change thanks to a clever reform policy. Major projects in the key sectors of industry, agribusiness, renewable energies and transport infrastructure are drawing attention to the Kingdom’s economic potential. Most recently, the focus has been on railways. In mid-November, His Majesty King Mohammed VI opened Africa’s first high-speed rail link, which will in future connect Tangier in the north with Marrakech in the south. The new line will initially run between Tangier and Casablanca. The picture shows the delivery of the newly constructed railcars in Tangier Med, the largest container port in Africa.

The most modern stations, state-of-the-art track systems, up to three lanes and top speeds of 320 km/h are unparalleled in the region. The greatest added value was created in the country itself: Maintenance work on the twelve double-decker trains is carried out in a specially built workshop. Staff training is based in Rabat. 90 percent of the engineering work comes from Moroccan expertise. Around three quarters of all engineers and experts involved in the project are Moroccan. And the route, built with respect for the environment, ensures sustainable mobility for everyone.
